PIMPIN' AIN'T EASY
When we are born into this world, our minds tend to develop immediately to our surroundings and begin to absorb information through many different mediums. Early on in our childhood, we are surrounded by the views and events of people as well as media that depicts: good and bad, right and wrong, and (most importantly) heroes and villains. Eventually developing personal opinions on these certain individuals or ideas that we idolize and feel connected to. Even subconsciously, these heroes and villains affect the ways we think and grow.
Due to the particular role models that I aspired to be like, I found myself stuck. As if I were taking concessions in life because my role models had sacrificed exactly that. These role models gradually changed, despite me never drifting too far away from my initial goal of becoming a good man.
When people see me, they see a hippie; which I suppose is not entirely untrue. Categories seem to be a common way to compare people at every level, however, not one person is all the way one thing. I feel blessed to have been able to dive deeper into what I aspire to be. As I continue to dig deeper into a more modern-hippie lifestyle, I find myself completely obsessed with the endless approaches to well-rounded spiritual learning.
“Hippies” tend to be associated with people’s first impressions of me, which seems to lead to the conclusion that the way I think is because of the role models within this category(yogis, shamans, etc). While credit is due to those specific lifestyles that have certainly influenced me, it would be a false accusation to claim that they sculpted the man you see today.
There is a sort of sticky stereotype that clings to the word Pimp. Most people would place them amongst only the negative categories; however, not one description of a group defines an individual in any way. Initially, Pimps were revered as not only protectors, but as leaders within their community(this has obviously spun off into different directions within recent history, but stay with me).
The life of a Pimp is nothing short of lonely. Perhaps that's why I felt not only intrigued, but connected to the books, interviews, and stories from these individuals for quite some time.
It was never the flashy clothes and cars, the endless seas of overly loyal women, it wasn't even the flossy-ass chalices with the capital, diamond-encrusted “P" that glistened between the tight grip of their hands. Though can you tell which of the options are my favorite?
What really caught my attention was the ways Pimps seemed to carry themselves. Their mysterious demeanor brought on a cloud of enveloping confidence, and with it, an almost silent intelligence.
These uniquely specific people lived far different than any of the other humans that filled the empty spaces of the same area. Due to their surroundings, responsibilities, and tribulations faced, these individuals have been through hell and back to scrape and survive within the communities they were unintentionally born into. Whether becoming a Pimp was their initial end goal or not.
A Pimp is not only in control of the income that flows between he and his whores within the “family” they have created. For the business to carry on smoothly with absolutely no slip-ups, a Pimp begins to manipulate the overall thoughts that each girl of his produces. His grip around each mind needs to be held tightly around not only each hoe, but the surrounding community as well to provide safe business transactions between Tricks and Hoes. This grip and manipulation can be considered both good and bad. I understand the initial pull back to a man manipulating the thoughts of a woman. However, like everything else in life, there are other factors to consider. The reality of the situation is that many of these sex workers tend to be mentally twisted or drug-addicted. Being unable to provide for themselves is the main reason why they accept the protection and stability that a Pimp has to offer. It is without a doubt that these women can turn tricks regardless, though they understand that if they accept the terms of turning in their income, in return they are provided with food/housing, protection, and even new beautiful clothing in which, if it were up to them, they would most likely not be able to provide for themselves.
I can not only see but understand the negative feedback I will receive for applying praise to these individuals because of the atrocities that happen in the Pimp game.
"Fuck those sexist, brainwashing bastards; follow them and you will surely fall off the deep end into a pit of amorality."
I get it.
Though I would like to make it clear, not a single soul in this world has the right to tell me who to look up to. We all have skeletons, the difference between a Pimp and any other role model out there is that he doesn't feel ashamed to show his; which is exactly how these individuals have earned my respect in the first place. I can understand that a Pimp is not necessarily a great role model, but who is? Some Pimps beat their hoes, some successful pastors steal from the poor and label it as an “offering”. Some Pimps buy their hoes' houses, while some pastors use their community to build housing for the homeless. To say an individual or organization is inherently evil just seems ignorant. Don't you think it would be more beneficial to society to demonize based on actions rather than assumptions or social class?
Think about what we could do as humans if we implemented the same exercises of strengthening our minds, to break ourselves free from the metaphorical hell that we keep ourselves trapped in. To teach ourselves to do what we need to do, to become who we desperately strive to become. We could learn to take more control of the outcomes of our actions. We could control the successes of our businesses, hobbies, or better yet, our fucking dreams!
We were all born into this world the same as any other. None of us have been here before, none of us know what the fuck we're doing, and I am damn sure that absolutely none of us are even close to figuring out the result that this world produces for us. So why sit there and shit on others who are testing out a different way of living?
I have found within my personal growth that when you are successfully able to put down any sort of judgment burrowed in your thoughts, there are lessons that we can learn from everyone. Despite how or where they started their time on this Earth.
Ever since I was a child, I have found interest in all the individuals I was taught to stay away from. Whether that was because of rebellion towards my parents, or just society in general; I never wanted to be average. Doing the exact opposite of what people have told me has always brought me pleasure, I am just not sure why. I have attempted to find inspiration from others that are accepted by the rest of society. The only thing I compare it to is my daily cup of coffee. Feeling inspired at first, but the crash of digging deeper into the status quo came as fast as a caffeine crash.
I taught myself to recognize and dismiss all of the negative opinions of others, as those people have absolutely no fucking idea what it is that has brought me to a new state of emotional and spiritual clarity. I have found a burning desire for equality, perfect health, worldwide love, and the need to unlock my full potential. The most beautiful part about these points listed is the fact that I learned to implement them from the exact morally outcasted groups of people that society labels as "evil."
Open your eyes and broaden your horizon of the people that you choose to accept your individual teachings from. As your walls come down, you will notice that there is a lot to learn from the individuals society chooses to ignore. A Pimp can teach you how to expand your consciousness, a dope-boy can teach you to control your own business and wealth, and there is much to learn about brotherhood and loyalty from the life of a gangster.
